A friend just tried this today, and it actually worked. It only took him a few tries to nail the technique, and MUCH faster than the guy in the video. He did it on a Maytag washing machine, but it also worked on the dryer as well (of a different brand and model). Both of them had a digital reader/counter, but a manual coin insert at the top and a coin return slot at the bottom. This trick won't work with the coin sliders (though there are videos for those as well). It's really quite simple. Just put a penny at the bottom of the coin return, hold the coin return button, and with your fingers flick the penny up the slot until it registers .25 cents. Hope this helps someone. Fuck my landlord.

A lot of property owners around here don't have the decency to change the carpet or clean the area, let alone update the washing machines. Point being, we're left with old ass machines that are helpless to simple hacks such as this.

I used to live at a place that had that exact model (at least it looked like that one) Right before I moved out they changed the washer and dryers to use some fancy card you have to use a debit or credit card to refill.

I picked mine up because people I rented too decided that since my old machines were not theirs they didnt have to take care of them they used my supplies to do their laundry and never replaced shit they had a cow when they went to do laundry, the money paid to maintain them as well as provide supplies it could be that these landlords are in a bind as well for the same reasons, I've seen rentals that were completely trashed when the tenants moved out, imagine having to remodel with every tenant... laundry facilities become a second thought -------------------- California Has Legalized Child Prostitution

Yea, it is possible. I'm sure not every landlord is as pitiful as my own. But the collective and overall bitching about the situation seems to reflect that a lot of them cut corners wherever they possibly can. Even so, it is a social trickle effect. The property owners may be a little more responsive if the tenants themselves would take care of their rentals. In the absence of mutual respect, assholery breeds assholery.
